Deposit and guarantee
The deposit is the tenant's money and must be placed on a locked account in the tenants name.
If the depoist is paid in cash to the landlord or placed directly into the landlords bank accoun it is an illegal deposit (irregular deposit). The tenant can at any time demand the money back. As a main rule the tenant can claim interest from the day the tenant paid the deposit.
If the landlord does not repay, the tenant can send in a complaint to the Rent Disputes Tribunal.
