Information and guidance
In the Rent Disputes Tribunal we go to work so we can contribute to the rental market functioning in the best way possible.
We do so by strengthening the legal protection of tenants and landlords, and we do this in several different ways.
By giving information and guidance we are ensuring that you as tenant or landlord are aware of your rights and obligations in the tenancy agreement. Here on our website we have tried to highlight the information that give answers to what we know people are looking for. We hope you are left with a feeling that we have thought of you, when you are reading!
Our information is objective, so that we maintain the unbiased role the Rent Disputes Tribunal is meant to have towards both landlords and tenants.
The Rent Disputes Tribunal is state-run institution that process disputes between tenants and landlords pursuant to the Tenancy Act.
Our case leaders have special expertise in the area of tenancy law, and the cases are processed purusant to the Regulations concerning The Rent Disputes Tribunal.
Hopefully we can, with valuable information and guidance, contribute to you avoiding conflict (what we call a dispute). If it still were happen, our mission is to solve the dispute efficiently and affordable – with high quality.
Mediation
We try to enable the cases to be solved by mediation. The benefit to mediation is that the parties can influence how the case is solved. Often we can make it happen quickly. You can save both time and energy, and maybe also the worry that comes with being in an ongoing dispute.
In mediation we can also find other kinds of solutions than we do when we decide the case in the form of a written decision. In the cases we mediate, three out of four cases get solved.
It can be worth while to think twice about partaking in mediation, even though you were hesitant at first.
Decision
When the case is decided in the form of a written decision, it happens after both parties have had the opportunity to send in how they view of the case, in writing. The Rent Disputes Tribunal is then made up of an unbiased case leader, a committee member representing tenants and a committee member representing landlords.
Most of the cases we decide is decided with binding effect for the parties, and without the case going through to the district court.
